Homes without an open fire, woodburner or other solid fuel burner (including new homes) as of 31 December 2002, cannot install an open fire or any new woodburner (excludes Ashburton).
The use of open fires without a resource consent will be banned in Kaiapoi from May 2010.
All other areas

- >65% efficiency
Properties greater than 2ha, untested wood burners and multi-fuels permitted (except in zones 2).
